Recently, the committee and trustees of Pride in Gloucesteshire met to decide whether this year's event in Gloucester Park would take place.
To help make our decision we collected public opinion from our community on both eventualities, along with what measures you would like to see put in place to help keep you safe.
We researched the measures we would need to put into place to ensure we would be able to safely operate and the overall cost of doing so.
We scrutinized local and national data on COVID-19 and consulted with local government whilst also taking into consideration national guidelines.
After reviewing all the information we found that public opinion was very positive and that a strong majority of the community wanted Pride to go ahead. We concluded that the event would be financially viable, and we would like to thank Gloucester City Council, Gloucestershire County Council and all other grant funders, sponsors and traders for working with us to ensure we would have funds available.
Through our comprehensive Risk Assessment we identified a number of controls and rules that would be needed to operate a safe yet successful event. However, we felt that we were uncertain at this point that we could effectively implement all of these controls at such short notice whilst also guaranteeing we would have enough staff on the day to implement them.
After viewing all the above information the committee voted unanimously to cancel this years Pride event.
We will, however, still be celebrating Pride! We are currently planning an online event which can be enjoyed at home by all (news on that coming very soon) and looking at some physical presence in the form of small-scale socially distanced activities.
We are incredibly disappointed to be having to cancel this years event however the health and safety of our community is what matters most and we do not want to put a single member of our community at risk.
We promise Pride in Gloucestershire will be back even bigger and even better in 2021. Until then look after yourselves, be kind to one another and keep washing those hands!
